WHO reporting system for Lymph node, Spleen and Thymus cytopathology.

    听

The cytological examination of lymph nodes and serous effusions is of great value in the diagnosis of lymphoid disorders. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently published a reporting system for the cytological examination of lymph nodes, spleen and thymus with the aim to standardise the approach to reporting such samples.听

Diagnosing lymphoid pathology on fine needle aspirate biopsy (FNAB) is complex and requires specialist expertise. The integration of clinical and imaging data with cytopathological features and ancillary tests is essential. An ultrasound scan, especially in a rapid on site evaluation (ROSE) setting, is helpful in guiding the aspiration but also in providing information on the lesion in a similar way to the macroscopic examination of surgical excision biopsies.听

The webinar will provide an overview of the WHO categories with examples of benign and malignant lymphoid disorders and a practical guidance on how the categories can be applied in the daily practice.听
